Argyrios Aslanidis started his hobby of carrier pigeons in 1956, after being offered a few pigeons by his friend Krallis Stelios from his loft in Vienna. In 1982, his two sons, George and Dimitrios Aslanidis began their own involvement with pigeons. Since then, the Aslanidis family has created, with big effort and joy, one of the best lofts in Greece. Also, attending to international exhibitions in the recent years has added to the loft remarkable racing pigeons from great breeders and helped the family achieve top results in all levels.
George and Dimitrios Aslanidis use the widowhood system during the season. Both male and female pigeons can participate in the championship, but their partner is always waiting in the loft. In the past five years no antibiotics are used in the loft; only medicines for trichomoniasis and coccidiosis. The family follows the international developments regarding loft management, constantly improves their loft and remains in the top of Greek fanciers; this is achieved both by getting pigeons from successful fanciers all around Europe and by using techniques such as computer monitoring for pigeon performance, treatments and vaccinations.
